| Upgrading OS - which one?
I have win98 now....I think I'm going to upgrade finally. Win2k comes to mind...but the not 100% guarantee that all my games will work on it leaves me with having to have a dual boot system...I'd rather have one OS but would do this. WinME....what was this?? lol....it came, it went, XP came out.....should I consider this? WinXP seems like the best out of the two...but is it stable? At least one member that I know of, has changed back to his old OS because it was so unstable. When I was thinking of upgrading, I figured I'd wait 'til the 2nd edition comes out......but I wanna upgrade NOW
Thoughts?

2k is still the most stable os there is right now xp is ok... still a lot of bugs and limited hardware support since it just came out. it will be the thing of the future, but not for a while. don't even consider me (it was the biggest ms mistake of all time).
i'd reccomend 2k. |

I'm using XP, and I'm annoyed at the driver problems I'm having with my TNT2M64 vid card. Other than that it's way better than 98 or ME (not for ME, that one! ).
Haven't used 2K, but if you are not needing support for games I'd think it was the most stable win around. If you are a gamer, go for XP and make sure you only got fully supported hardware!
My opinion, for what it's worth! | |

Are you upgrading from w98 1st ed. or 2nd.ed.?
If 1st.ed.,2nd.ed. is not bad for games.2k I havent heard.

I'm using XP and am quite happy with it. The seems to be an upgrade in the pipeline to come out sometime soon but I suppose that is ever the way with an OS

Good to check out how ya games will run in winnt/2k/xp. I currently am running win2k and havent had any major problems getting games working on here, in all cases so far the performance runs as good as win98se if not better.
I was running XP for a while, but had issues with my graphics card i think. WinXP "stutters" with video & 3d/games
My vote is for 2k or XP

XP is fantastic (got my XP Pro for $53 when MS had thier partners deal)
ME Sucks Sucks Sucks......................................Sucks
Win 2K is fantastic and has large user base but will be over shadowed by XP
Win98 & Win98SE are fantastic but old news.
I get a hint that Win2K and WinXP may diverge again... 2K Server for really big business and XP for everyone else.
This is based on absolutey nothing except the hair on my a#s.
My 2 cents

The only reason I would leave 98SE now is to experiment with XP.
I find 98SE to be very stable, once you have everything configured correctly with good drivers, and the right settings in the bios.
I'd already have XP if it were not for the massive copy protection schemes MS has come up with. I do buy my software, but this hacks me off.
