    Question Another Lotus Notes question

Hi all, another notes question here

When you open notes it always views the e-mail in the middle first. Like all other e-mail programs on earth view the newest e-mail when you open them.

Any Lotus Notes users out there have any idea how to change this?

    Thanks.

Hmmmm...my Lotus Notes at work comes up with newest first. Try clicking the date tab to down arrow. Also, check preferences.

I will check Lotus Notes at work. I have been off the last 3 days due to being sick, but will go into work tomorrow and will check it then.

Sorry, Neo...no luck, was still trying to find more options yesterday and today. Have you tried a google search?

I really dont like Lotus Notes much. Its not very intuitive to use.

    Try "lotus Notes email help"

use the quotation marks cuz it narrows your searches down to exact wording

Thanks for the links. Lots of good info there that I maybe able to use later. But unfortunatly nothing that solves my problem, but its ok im not to worried about it. I only start Notes once a day anyway.

Try closing Notes and deleting a file called "cache.ndk". We do it all the time here at work and it fixes a lot of strange error messages / quirks of Notes. (We use 6.5, I believe for R5 is cache.dsk)

I deleted cache.ndk and it didnt do anything. When I press mail it still shows me the message in the middle first.

    But thanks for the suggestion.

That is Notes for you. I use it at work and we support 13,000 users who do too, and I still think it sucks!
Crappiest email software I have ever used. Please MS, bring out a collaborative software package....

13,000, that must be scary! We have just over 100 users here and it can be painfull enough sometimes. Even if MS did come out with something that could replace notes, I dont think we would ever spend the money on it here.

Yeah, it is downright brutal at times. On top of that, we work in a Citrix enviroment. Out of the 600 apps we support, Notes generates the most faults. Everyday I am wishing they would switch to something else
Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Maybe try recreating the bookmark.nsf and desktop.dsk files by renaming them and logging back in.

    EDIT-- Desktop.NDK

Another idea is to strip the notes.ini file - remove all below timezone. Then relaunch Notes and this should initiate a workstation setup. That might do the trick.

heh after I renamed my current bookmark and desktop files it wants to start viewing my inbox right down the bottom. I like mine sorted by date, newest at the top.

    Hmm...
    Depending on your version:
I would open Notes and sort the view as you want it.

    Then go to FILE>>PREFERENCES>>USER PREFERENCES

In the initial box that opens, there is a field called additional options. Near the center, there is a setting called "Retain Column Sorting". If it's checked, check and re-check it. Close Notes and delete cache.

    See what happens.
