Ok, so here's the deal.
C: is the first harddrive and has Windows XP Pro
D: is the second harddrive's first partition and holds audiofiles(Mp3's and files for audio production.
E: is the second harddrive's second partition and holds misc data.
So...
I think my only option for making my box work as an audio workstation again is to put another drive with Win 98 on and dual boot it with XP.
Is this possible? How do I do it?
(No rush, don't have a harddrive yet...) |

Well with my dual boot W2K and W98, W98 has to be installed first, then W2K. I believe it is the same for XP. |

No no no, it's not that hard at all. In fact, it's very very simple. When you get your new HDD for Win98, just leave the jumper set for Master or Single. Then disconnect your other HDDs and connect just your new one and Voila! now you can safely install Win98 without destroying the WinXP bootloader. I'm not sure if the WinXP bootloader will automatically find Win98 then or not, but if it doesn't it should be as simple as doing a quick reinstall of WinXP (not deleting or reformatting, just a "repair" install)
Anyhow, here's my personal setup for what it's worth:
Partition one on my HDD is Win98; Partition two is WinXP.
I did have Win98 installed first, and when I installed WinXP on my second partition, it found Win98 just fine. Here's the interesting part though... since I've installed XP, I've had to reinstall 98... I deleted the Windows folder and reinstalled. Guess what, the XP bootloader was still there. Didn't mess up anything.
My Win98 Partition is C:\ and my WinXP partition is E:\.
Hope this helps. |

I have not tried that method of adding another drive to the mix though I cannot see XP adding the W98 info to the boot loaded. You may be able to edit the boot file (can't remember the file) and include the W98 info. I will look for the file. |

Well guess what. I don't have to do it. I just convinced XP to work with me instead of against me by downloading and installing new audio drivers. I tried it before, but I guess the soundcard needed a little tenderness(took it out and put it in another PCI slot earlier today). Or maybe they just released new drivers.
Thanks Anyway! |

Good thing cause from what I read, you would have to install 98 first and then XP. |
