I think you're screwed. Do you have an XP disk to do a re-install?
You could try to boot from CD and install over the existing OS. |

I always use this program http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
Download the CD iso, burn it, boot to it and follow onscreen instructions to reset the password.
Its not the prettiest interface in the world, but its never let me down. |

Hi, I'm new here but interested in this thread.
I just took possession of a laptop but it came with XP home pre-installed. I don't have a password for this laptop. I notice that one solution requires the use of a floppy disk but my laptop does not have a floppy drive. How can I get around this?

OK, but the instruction to use a floppy seemed very specific.
Thanks for that.

Oh ye of little faith.
Yes, just re-read my post. It must have sounded quite pompous. Guess I'm just not used to posting messages just yet.
Anyway, just for the record, I DID pay good money for the puter. Just that in my experience after sales service is pretty naff in most stores so the chances of me getting the password would be pretty remote.
However, I suppose if I contacted the manufacturer with the serial number I guess they'd have a record of any passwords. Or am I being overly optimistic here?
