tried reinstalling win xp now have two operating systems

i need some help. i put in the system restore disk for windows xp on a laptop, it came up showing only one partition, the main one. when i deleted it it warned me it had system files on it etc etc and all would be lost. I deleted it..it automatically started a format and took about 30 minutes to complete. Once that was done it started installing windos xp from the cd that was in. it got done and rebooted...came up with black command screen that showed two copies of windows xp professional and wanted me to choose one...it counted down and if i didnt choose it chose one automatically. I need to get rid of this. Any suggestions?

That's pretty common...no biggie!

Let the system boot, then hit start--run, type msconfig, hit OK, go to the boot.ini tab, hit the 'check all boot paths' button, it will tell you that one of them is incorrect and ask if you want it removed, hit yes, OK, reboot...should be fixed!
