needed: program to authenticate pdf files over internet

What I need is a program like Adove LiveCycle Public server that can authenticate pdf documents with users and passwords over the internet.

I'm attempting to put a book my company is selling onto a cd that can be included with the book. I've been throwing around formats and ideas and at one point was thinking of doing it online in pdf format but splitting it into chapters. The problem though is I want it to be searchable easily and i haven't been able to find a program to search multiple pdfs in a web based client.

So if you guys have any suggestions for a cheapish program that can do this or an alternative way that would be great!
