Duel Booting
I did do a search for this but i could only seem to find answers to this for different op systems.
this might seem nuts but i have a good reason for this
ok i have 2 H/Drives both runing win2k can i put both H/Drives in to one machine and from start up choose to boot from disc 1 or disc 2 i think there is a way to config the boot.ini file for this but i am not sure how to do this.
or if someone out there has a better way to achive this i would love to know.
Thanx
Ice

Ya, it will work if you use two of the same OS's...you might have to name them different in the boot.ini though...that is...if it only boots to one...

so my boot.ini looks like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows 2000 Advanced Server" /fastdetect
am i right that to get the above to work change it to this
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
default=multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows 2000 Advanced Server" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows 2000 Advanced Server" /fastdetect

looks good, but try this
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
default=multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows 2000 Advanced Server [Drive One]" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows 2000 Advanced Server [Drive Two]" /fastdetect
The same name for each may cause a couple probs...just a thought

Put your win2000 cd in and start install,
Start recovery council when it asks you to,
Once in recovery council, type (bootcfg \list)
It should list both os’s then type (bootcfg \rebuild)
And it will make your boot ini dual boot

BOOTCFG would work great but it is only available in Windows XP and can only be run from the Recovery Console.
You might try a boot manager. There are a few free ones.
