    Internet Explorer "Auto detect settings"

What does this setting do? DoI need it? I feel like I run a little faster with it unchecked.

it is found in tools->internet options->connections->LAN settings

    Thanks

auto-detect with regards to the internet

I don't know what it does but my "internet checkup" software turned it off without even asking me because it said it "slows down the response of the browser".
