    Question Kernel patching

    Hi all,

Anyone ever used any interesting kernel patches for linux?

I applied the preemptive patch to my 2.4.18 kernel last night due to boredom

It was very easy to do but not really sure I can sense any real improvement in system performance (its supposed to reduce latency & increase responsiveness on desktop systems).

So can anyone suggest some patches to break my kernel with

    Regards

    Eddy

try the USB 2.0 patch Eddy! these are currently on the 2.5 kernel tree and they may be at the linux usb web site.
later and let us know if it booted

Odds are very good there are several spelling mistakes in this post.

    Ooohh sounds like fun

Sadly I have no USB 2 devices but worth a try

After some more use I do think the preempt patch makes a positive difference

the -ac patches (I think you really nead -ac2/ac3 for the 2.4.18 otherwise you're still with rc2 since Marcello forgot to apply the last patch to the final release).

-ac offers new SIS IDE drivers (in case you care) and some other updates (not obvious). Check out the changelog for the 2.4.18 (no changelog for 2.4.19-pre3 yet).

Good luck with your project, not that hard if you had understood how ipchains worked, you'll set it up in no time.

Given that Wales starves for "celebrities" I am sure Alan Cox will be the pride of welsh IT lol.
