Installing OC-app and HDD-imaging-tool fails on XPSP2
After having installed SP2 on WinXP Pro, I get this error message when I want to install drivers/motherboard-software/utilities:
"Failed to install IO-driver"
Before when I didnt have SP2, and on this very same PC I succesfully installed that software.
What exactly causes this?
Is it possible to fix, and if this is the case, how to do it?
Really greatfull if anybody can help me out at this point=)Last edited by cricketura; January 23rd, 2006 at 11:47 AM.

More details
I bought "computer-pieces", so I built my computer from scratch & also I had to install alll neccesary drivers including OS (the drivers I installed after having OS installed).
That 1 time I succesfully managed to install those drivers was after a fresh WinXP install, and before Service Pack 2.
Right now Im not able to install "the additional utilities (from the motherboard driver CD" (utilities like for example: ASUS Ai Booster, ASUS AMD Cool n quiet, Nvidia chipset n-tune utility; all of these give me the exact same error message: Failed to install IO-driver)
The motherboard and the CD that came bundled togheter, I bought in June 2005.
I'd be surprised if all of this software wouldnt be compatible with SP2
But anyways I appreciate your reply

I think all OC software and similar (HDD-imaging tools) I won't be able to install.
- Why not? Because of Service Pack 2 (on computers without SP2, "Powerquest Drive Image 2002" installs without probs.). Surely this is security related, these apps maybe use the MBR, which SP2 blocks for security reasons.
- Who has fixed this issue? I'm sure that many still use Powerquest 2002 nowadays (Powerquest was bought by Symantec, so now Ghost 10 is partially based on Drive Image 8). If not MS fixed this, than the software companies must have? If non of these, then us.
- Only solution I found yet and which works:
install the apps. first, then SP2
I'd like to avoid using this solution this time if possible.
