It's time for a data recovery software to come in there. If you can slave the drive to another
you might be able to retrieve files that weren't wiped when trying to format and delete. The
data recovery softwares out there can be a big help if the drive has become inaccessible if
you try setting it up as a slave. http://www.pctools.com/file-recover/...OVMTC=standard |

for future reference, you do not want to format a hd if you are looking to recover data, that deletes the data (well it actually doesn't delete it unless you do a low level format, but that is a different story). Hopefully the data recovery software can recover it for you. As you will probably find, the software is pretty spendy and even though u can find tons of free downloads, most, if not all, will only recover a few files and then require you to purchase the product to use it to recover everything. I'd expect to kiss my files goodbye after this. Make some Partition Magic rescue discs and restart the computer to boot from those. It should recognise a failed partition attempt and offer some recovery or other options. It's a while since I used it, so I can't remember the exact procedure.

Whenever performing any changes to partitions important data should already be backed
up by an external means to prevent loss if something goes wrong in the process. The link
here as well as some costly softwares are still no guarantee of a full recovery of files stored
on a drive. There are some softwares as well as tech services that claim to be able to get
files off of a drive after they have been deleted. That remains to be seen. |

The complication in this case is that PM was busy moving things around on the drive, and may have screwed up a lot of file metadata, leaving files unrecoverable. A sector editor may still be able to recover this stuff, but it is not necessarily easy or quick. |

"That remains to be seen." mainly refers to the claims advertised by some services. There
are some excellent softwares availble for a price. Another alternative is to try a demo if this
is a one time event. http://www.recovermyfiles.com/ |

I have had alot of good success with a program called Easyrecovery. There are a few different versions of the program but i was able to recover files from a drive once that was formatted twice. Not low level format but just using the windows format. http://www.ontrack.com/easyrecoverydatarecovery/
Like it has been said, try to set the drive you want to recover the data off of as a slave to another in another system. do not reinstall windows or any programs on the drive before you try to recover files becasuse you could end up over writting files.
Good Luck!
