ping test software

I am looking for a piece of software that will run a ping test every so often and send an email if the ping test fails.

I know you can spend thousands of bucks on software that will do this, but I left my wallet at home..so i am looking for something free or cheap;

or...

how easy would it be to write something like this?


The reason being..I have a VPN and one node continually goes down. I am thinking that an occasional ping test might help maintain the connection keeping it from going down as often; and if it does go down; I will get notified.

You could possibly run ping through the windows scheduler program. I don't know about the email requirement, though.

He wouldn't have to learn much if he installed a version of bash for the windows platform. He could probably just install Cygwin, and I'm sure someone here can write a small script for him that suits his needs...

I don't know too much about linux...but I do have cygwin installed in a few places.

How can it help?
