Radeon 8500 under Red Hat 7.2

I'm just wondering if anyone has had any luck getting one of these bad boys to work. I've read a few posts about people having luck with the 7500, but no one says anything about the 8500. I have more or less thrown everything I can at this card, and have had only partial success. I installed the XFree86 4.2.0 binaries, and grabbed the latest drivers from the DRI project. No go. I've been tossing around grabbing the DRI CVS files, but since I'm somewhat new to Linux, that seems a little over my head right now.

Anyway, I'm just hoping someone has gotten it to work. If it can be done, I'll bang away at it until it works for me. In the meantime, I've slapped an old Rage XL into my pc just to get away from the shell for awhile.

Well from what I've found with XFree 4.2.0 people have been getting it to at least display. Framebuffers have been slow, but that was pre DRI support. Have you tried manualyl entering the config for it in xf86config?

Thanks for the replies and thanks for the link. Since my first post, I did in fact get the DRI CVS files and got them installed. And I did configure the XF86Config, and XF86Config-4 by hand, but didn't have any luck. Patience just may a virtue for me, until XFree86 4.3.

But in the meantime, I found some tricks on another post.....
