automatic boot and shutdown time?

Is there an easy way in Windows 2000 to program the computer so that it turns on at a certain time and turns off at another time?

I want to have my computer startup everyday at around 6:00a.m. and turn off at 8 or 9pm.

The reason is because i don't want to be wasting electricity while i leave it on overnight. If there is a way to Power manage the computer with Windows 2000 so that it consumes less energy while it's idle at night but is still running WinFAX Pro, that would be great!

I am using WinFax Pro to receive Faxes but I rarely get any at night and can't justify wasting the electricity but I also don't want to turn it off completely, just in case an important Fax arrives in the middle of the night.

well if you shut it off at night cause you dont want to waste electricy you wont get faxes anyways :-p

I think some bios have the ability to set up a shutdown time. Waking it up could be a bit more of a pain. Maybe setting up something with WOL if your network/motherboard supports it?

First of all, thanks for the response.

I have had no luck with WOL in the past, I can never seem to get it to work correctly. I'll have to learn more about it I guess.

I am aware that I will not get faxes if I turn off the machine, but important faxes rarely come in at late hours, however, I do receive some important faxes early in the morning around 3 a.m. my time, which is 6 a.m. Eastern time and so some companys on the East coast could try to send a fax and find that they're not able to get through.

Does anyone have a comparison chart or something that compares electricity use on an idle computer vs. a system running normally?

The entire reason i set this computer up as a fax maching is because we were getting too many junk faxes and wasting a lot of paper. That problem is basically solved because I can chose to print out the faxes I receive or discard them. the problem now is that instead of a fax machine being on all night consuming little energy, I have this computer that has to run 24/7
