| Windows, Product Key, and Defender...
I just purchased a new copy of Windows x64 from Newegg, got it all setup and installed this past weekend. Everything seemed to be going fine until I downloaded the latest beta of Windows Defender. Now when I go to install Defender, I get this error: Quote: |
This computer has an invalid Volume License Product Key (VLK). To obtain a valid key, please contact the computer manufacturer or the company from which you purchased the computer.
| Volume License Product Key... wha? I can go to the MS site and pass the "genuine Microsoft Windows validation" just fine. I've got my COA and my key *should* be absolutely valid. And its been 3 days since I contacted MS and still no reply. Anyone else having this issue? Should I dump Defender... or dump x64?

Weird...I tried Defender beta, and it worked fine for me.
I would just say screw it...from the way it looks, it doesnt do more than the MS AntiSpyware...unless i am missing something... |

Well it seems I'm not the only one with this issue... It appears to happen on several legit x64 installs. I'd link to the forum where this is discussed in more detail but they have a link to a "cracked" version of Defender so that's a no-no . I guess I get to wait for beta 3 (or whatever the next version is) to be able to install it . |

Actually you are EXreaction, it's the new official name for the Microsoft Antispyware. It's beta 2 which is now known as Microsoft Defender. http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx
I stopped using Windows Antispyware when it kept missing things and slow updates. Which is usually a sure sign of a Microsoft product.
I ended up going back to Spysweeper, which is bloated even more these days, but it works pretty well when it comes to spyware/malware. It also doesn't remove your antivirus on accident or have lots of false positives.

Well that figures, my license is also not working. Funny thing is, I am actually using a valid license.
I'll test it later on a computer that has a license that is valid, but illegal still. |
