| Need imaging software, but which one?
I need some software that can "image" a computer, then when that computer dies, be able to boot to a shared network drive on my server, and bring the image back. Any ideas? |

I think Norton Ghost can do that ... i didn`t use it on a network, but i read that it can be done to recover an image over a network ...
I used Ghost only on one PC and made images of my OS hard drive as a backup ... it does the job perfectly ...

ghost does pretty good over a network.
Also, it does disk spanning pretty well, so we made basic images and put it on 3 cd's. With the first one bootable and would start the imaging for you.
Lots of options in ghost.

Ghost is rather pricey. Partition Image is a freebie. I use it in Linux, but it supports FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS. You can backup to and restore from network and it runs from a bootable CD. http://www.partimage.org/ Germ

Yeah, Norton Ghost is nice. Saw it used a couple times. I have Drive Image, but never tried it nor heard of any experiences with imaging over the network.
And, as always, freeware is nice. Going to take a look at that link. Thanks Germ |

Note that Ghost Personal editions do not support network drives. Of course you can have a separate local partition to keep images on (or copy to when needed) and not have to use the network drives with Ghost. |
