Upgrading from Windows 2000 Professional to XP

I want to install this on my computer (Windows XP Professional with SP2 (Single User) ISO Image) However, once I open it, the Install Windows XP won't let me click on it. As I have said, I have Windows 2000 Professional, and want to upgrade to XP. The XP is coming from an Academic site in which I download it to the computer, and not to a disk. I have enough gib on the computer, so I don't understand why it won't let me. To undo the ISO image, I used a program called undisker. Can anyone please help me??

Thank You very much.

Are you upgrading to Linux or similar? That's about the only upgrade path I know of from Win2k - unless you don't mind M$ pwning yer arse...

You burn the ISO to a blank CD and then install it. You usually use the "Copy" function of your CD burning software: copy from the ISO to the blank CD.

So, I would just copy the ISO image (on my cd-r), click the cd-r and it would automatically install, or do I first translate it using the undisker first, and then put those files on the cd-r. I just want clarification. Thanks again.

When you copy from an ISO to a blank CD, it's just like putting a photographic copy of the original CD on there. You could open the ISO file and then copy the files to a blank CD, but why mess with the extra step. When you use the Copy function, it should offer some options as to the Source for the copy (e.g. HDD, CD/DVD ROM drive, ISO, or other image file). So you just pick "ISO or other image file" as the source and you should be presented an Explorer window for you to find and select the ISO you want to burn. Set up any other options you want (I usually burn my CDs at 16x for the best possible quality) and click the "Burn" button.

When I deal with iso's I just extract the files to a folder and click setup, maybe that will work for you. Nice and simple.

I got it too work. The problem was the fact that I didn't extract all those files to another folder, and I was just clicking on the setup button, so it didn't do anything. ->

I would burn the iso with nero or some other burning software then run it from the cd (this is mainly so you have a back up copy) Then run the setup from the cd

An iso is an image of a disk

I would also burn it to a CD as it is bootable and there are some recovery tools on there. That may definitely be handy in the future.
