Word 2003 bolding everything instead of selection

Hey all,

I'm having a problem in MS Word 2003 where if I highlight some text and select things like Bold or Italics it decides to apply it to the entire document including headers and footers.

I've tried deleting the normal.dot template and recreating it with the necessary formatting. I've made sure there's no macros that do that. It affects me and everyone I've asked in the office that uses Word 2003.

I've tried searches on Google worded various ways but I can't find anything specific to this.

Any ideas?

i'm not sure how to fix your problem...maybe a little more searching...i'll look when i have some more time...what happens if you highlight one line of text and use 'controy y' the shortcut keys for bold?

That is what happens when I highlight one line of text. The entire document gets bolded or italicized or underlined or whatever the formatting is.

i think maybe you missed my point try it with the shortcut keys 'control y' and see if it still does it.

what was the resolution it does the same if i use the contrl key or the menu bar
