    Exclamation Problems with watching videos.

This is really strange, I’ve never seen anything like it.
No mater what program I use to watch videos, even DVDs I get the same result.
Instead of seeing the video, I see a green sometimes black square. I still get sound but I don’t see the video!
    This is getting really frustrating.
If I reboot the computer, then I can watch videos for a little while, but eventually I cant watch them. Is there something installed on my PC that is stopping the video from playing?
I ran multiple Spy-ware and Registry fixing programs and I still have this problem…
    Anyone have any ideas?

First off, like everyone else is a thinkin', I'd check to update drivers. Video drivers to say the least.

Windows XP I'm assuming right? xP

Codec problem perhaps? (running out of suggestions already )

Well, have you installed something recently that could've started the problem?

it cant be a codec proble... i mean, it happends with DVDs as well, and with videos that worked before, sometimes they work, but usually they dont.

i cant think of anything that i have installed recently.

How about anything running in the background that could possibly screw with your media player's video player?

I'd get a hijackthis log going into hijackthis.de

thanks, i only got one error, the rest was classified 'safe'
i dont know what i shoud do with it:
    O2 - BHO: CVirtualDNSObj Object - {86C510E9-97EF-4749-914F-0280247BE3A6} - (no file)
Unnecessarily Entries found in this registry zone are potentially nasty. This application ([86C510E9-97EF-4749-914F-0280247BE3A6] - Result: 86C510E9-97EF-4749-914F-0280247BE3A6) has been checked. Hit rate: 100,00%
    Must be fixed!
Unnecessary (deactivated) entry that can be fixed.

what should i do? what will hapend after i do it? could this be my problem?

what kind of video card...i'm thinking overheating...do you do any gaming...if so do they flake out after playing for a while...anyway if you haven't done so if it was me i'd open up my case and give everything a good cleaning with some canned air especially if your card has a built in fan clean around it real good.

    What GPU?

Could try some different drivers. Reseat your GPU. Make sure the wire connection to your moniter are secure. (Just trying to throw out some ideas )

    Ya, try what carl said.

When your not going to do anything with it for a few hours, I would have it run memtest to check the ram(I don't think it's the ram, since everything else seems fine, but you never know).

hmm...everything seems fine working from your hard drive...wonder if its a prob with your optical drive...i've never had to clean the laser eye thing in one of mine...maybe somebody else can suggest how to..

maybe try copying a movie file to your hard drive and see what happens...from what all you've done and the way things are going i still wouldn't rule out your optical drive going belly up on you...do you have a spare drive or one you can borrow to see if thats the prob?

Well, mpg and avi' are already on my hard drive, they are not DVDs; I'm not playing them from an optical drive. I also have 3 hard drives with videos on each, I tried all 3 and they are all having the same problem. I find it hard to believe that 3 hard drives all went bad at the same time.

lol...i didn't mean you hard drives...well anyways you answered my question your not even able to play files from your hard drive...so that rules out any issue of a bad optical drive....have you tried a different codec pack...personally i like the 'ffdshow codec pack' maybe give it a try...
