| Anyone tried this XP Tweak yet?
Diskcache plays a very important role in WinXP. However, the default I/O pagefile setting of XP is conservative, which limits the performance. Some better values for different RAM are given below.
1. run "regedit";
2. goto [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr
ol\Session Manager\Memory Management\IoPageLockLimit];
3. modify the value in Hex depending on the size of your RAM:
RAM: modified value(Hex)
64M: 1000;
128M: 4000;
256M: 10000;
512M or more: 40000.
4. reboot.
Though some good tools (such as "Cacheman") can do this, it is an interesting experience for you to work it out by yourself and let your XP fly.
To create this key, do the following:
1. Go to Edit\New\DWORD Value
2. Name the registry key you just created to IoPageLockLimit
3. Double Click on the registry key and type in the value accordingly and also double check the Base is set at Hexadecimal
This is a registry key that exists by default in Windows 2000 Pro. I wonder why MS left this key out on Windows XP?

That's because that key doesn't exist. You will have to create it... Quote:

2. Name the registry key you just created to IoPageLockLimit
3. Double Click on the registry key and type in the value accordingly and also double check the Base is set at Hexadecimal

| And yes, it will use you physical memory. What this feature is doing is using your physical memory to cache disk I/O... |
