would anyone be able to help me out on choosing an operating system. i currnetly have windows xp professional 32bit but my uni has just extended its licence for use by my multimedia class on its 3ds max 7 at home.. which means i get to use the program at home on my projects and also adobe audition and q base.... i was wondering if it would help me to buy the windows xp 64bit or the vista 64bit with rendering times and mixdowns etc but the problem is i also enjoy playing games on my pc an was wondering about compatability issues with games on 64bit and vista not been too good with direct x9 games atm.
so which o/s would increase my performance in games and animations and i dont wanna dual boot with 2 o/s.
any help would be greatly appriciated

MS is putting all their efforts into Vista, so i wouldnt bother with getting XP64. There really is no preformance gains with it. |

I wouldn't touch windows vista yet, it looks like a great OS with many new features but its still a beta.
I would wait until they have ironed out all the bugs in vista.
I tried windows 64bit, worked nicely but had compatibilty issues when installing allot of software.

You shouldnt even be using Vista as a production os, its not even completed.
Wait till the final build comes out |

I'd upgrade the processor, if you feel your 3500+ aint adequate... Grab beta Vista fo FreE.
Whats the rest of ur PC specs? Ive heard Vista needs a decent PC(gfx) |

I would use vista, the last build 5728, is doing well, I have had no problems,
But I would keep XP, just for programs that are not compatible with vista yet,
There is a new build out now, 5734 but it’s not public yet, there may be an RC2 release,
So the best you can do is test it, see if it’s stable on your rig,
