I'm no expert on DVDs, but I have read here that some DVDs won't play on a burner. It's part of the copy protection

Did the system play DVD's prior to adding the Pioneer drive? Have you checked the Event Viewer for any other information?

I'm guessing that this is for multiple DVD's - just not one in particular? Have you checked the Region settings as well? There are a few things that are similar to your problem that have been fixed by Windows updates, but this seems different than what you are experiencing.
Im against picketing, but I dont know how to show it.

Thanks stroyal and bwcc. The re writer was playing DVD'S ok when i first fitted it, but it is not doing so now.

I have tried differant films in both the ROM and Rewriter with the same result.

I have tried many DVD,s and none wll play at all.

The computer has Service pack 2.

The LVC programe (that some one recomended some time ago) plays all these DVD,s no problem

I am afraid i dont understand any thing written in the event viewer.

Any other info would be greatly apreciated. Thanks.

    LVC??? Do you mean VLC???

Are data DVD's affected? Can you at least read the data (e.g. copy the vob files) on the DVD's?

um...I heard that some DVDs have a burning block on them so a CD/DVD burner combo can't play it...or so I've heard...<.<...
