| confusion on registry editing
mr easily confused here with this problem:
attempted to merge some settings into registry that i copied and pasted and saved first in notepad and then in word pad,but when i tried to merge,xp said that they were not in the right format(needs binary) saved them as .reg files
how does one go about doing this?
i went and manually edited the registry, but i can see where copying and pasting etc. would save a bunch of time.
thanks once again brad |

You may have not had the right header in the file. That would be my guess. |

My initial guess would be that WordPad changed the file format.
Instead of copy/paste reg I normally export it from the reg and then edit it, the merge it as needed. |

Wordpad adds formatting, notepad doesnt. I have used notepad many times to create REG files to he should be ok there, unless they beefed it up in XP. |

If you tried each separately, then it is probably something else wrong. |

Doesn't XP's reg file header have to be Regedit5 or something? |
