| why would windows slow my system?
i'm just curious why my puter would be faster in L00nix console than in WinXP. if my processor runs at 0% when it's idling then why would XP be slowing it......  |

Linux file systems are more efficient and therefore faster than NTFS or FAT and Linux IMO does a much better job managing memory.

just a console has much less overhead than a GUI too.

basically he means by since the console doesn't have pictures and a desktop. it has less to load and refresh | |

ah - commonly called bloat - stuff which is runing but is not contributing to the task at hand. e.g. having a big fat window manager with lots of eye candy will have lots of overhead for a simple terminal program. | |

aka 'bloatware' 
even Linux has some bloatware, Gnome and KDE (not sure about 3 haven't tried it yet) are a bit bloated 
cant' get away from it so easy
Hence I started using fluxbox... no room for bloat
