There is a PATH in Windows? How do I edit it?

I need to know how to add a directory to the PATH statement in Windows. I didn't even know there was a path statement in Windows and I don't have access to Windows (other than 98) to figure it out

How do I add to the PATH statement in Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP? Thanks.

In Win98 and ME(Im assuming):

Open autoexec.bat (usually in c:\), add the line path=whatever your path is. There will probably already be one there, just add to it.

Run autoexec.bat or reboot, whichever you prefer


In Win2k and XP(once again, im assuming):

Control Panel -> System -> Advanced (I think, its the last tab anyway) -> Environment variables

open the path variable and add to it

for win9x/ME the path can be set either thru autoexec.bat or by manually running a batch file within any dos window

for nt: right click on 'my computer' and click on the environment tab.

for w2k/xp: right click on 'my computer', click on advanced tab and then click on the button 'environment variables'
