I just read this...
So, if you upgrade, your purchased copy of WinXP is bad? But I BOUGHT it. That's like a car dealer telling you can't drive your old car after you buy a 2007 of the same model.
And last night on my XP Pro box, I get an install notice. I usually don't pay attention but on this one I did. The update was to make sure my computer was running a valid copy of Windows (I was).
Never guess where it directed me next? Yep, right to a MS Upgrade to Vista web page.
Talk about a company that needs a management clean-out from top to bottom!!! |

| A better example is that you traded in your old car to get a discount off the new car...Can't expect to drive the old one can you? Just purchase the full install and your issue goes away

Well, if you read the EULA, it has always been that way. That is why it is cheaper to buy an upgrade version. To use your car analogy, that is like you trying to drive your old car after you already used it as a trade in for a new car. I don't think the dealership would be too happy.
As for MS actually enforcing this, I am unsure if it actually puts your xp key on a blacklist after upgrading or not.

Yeah, yeah...I guess my logic was wrong. Sorry to have posted without my first cup of coffee
Ok, how's this then. The upgrade is probably just the same as the full install, but the full install is more expensive. So why not just one price? |

Can it be? MS actually being nice to is loyal customers?!?!?!?! It would seem so... The logic throughout the years has been "well, they already spent alot of money on something that is now outdated, we can be a little nice and put some of that money towards a new OS. Besides, it will give them incentive to upgrade to our newest and latest instead of keeping the same OS for 10 years." Note that this works in their favor since they are making money from a group of people that have already given them money and don't have much incentive to buy the next greatest thing. |

If they were being NICE to me, the upgrade would be $50
If I'm going to spend $159 on Vista UPGRADE and lose my old XP license, I'll pay for the full version and keep my XP Pro too. |

So you've already done the upgrade?
If you have.......I'm wondering if buying vista full will do anything to fix the xp notice?
What about that Steve?
If someone has already done the upgrade and their xp has now been unvalidated........can buying vista full fix that?.......I would think not.

Nope, haven't done it yet. Still not convinced it's worth it.
Besides XP Pro works for me. I work at a college and eventually I should be able to get Vista for $20; assuming we continue on licensing agreement with MS.
And MS don't give a crap about me not spending $160 on it; Dell, Gateway, IBM, other businesses are keeping up the cash flow.
I've yet to pay for a MS operating system, barring what's built into a pre-built computer (besides the $20 for XP Pro) |

We had a discussion on another thread where Mike gave the same response.
My final comment there was the same as here.
IT and corperate versions of Proffesional should be exempt from such a policy. I would hope......lol
There has been no response on that thread to that statement. I'm still waiting. |
