| getting vista boot loader to load
I recently shrunk my 160gb partition down to 120gb so i would have some space at the end of the disk to put Vista... Well i installed vista in that 30gb+ partition and i dont know what happened much after that other than installed drivers to get sound, etc in Vista. Shutdown the computer and now when it starts up it goes right into WIndows XP, like the BCD isnt picking up Vista or anything.. can I just use Windows XP's boot.ini to boot to vista or how do i correct this problem? I want XP to be the default but i want the choice to choose between that and Vista Business...
Thanks

don't you search anything sheesh....no you can't use xp's boot.ini file you have to use the vista bootloader. Not sure why I didn't over right the mbr correctly but you can pop the vista disk in and it should give you the option to fix the boot.

You should be able to just add a line pointing the Vista partition.
Or not, I guess.

yea well the problem im having is i cant ge the boot loaded back, i know i cant use the boot.ini (well i thought i could get around it since its booting to XP anyway)
i'll give that MS link a shot when i get home, i read it and it looks like it should do the trick, i'll just have to boot into XP and run a command prompt and get to the drive that has vista (i think its F: on my computer)
Thanks |

Put your Vista install disk in the drive, go to the repair section, and select repair boot loader.
(or something like that, its been a while since I used it) |
