Hey, all. I'm looking at turning one of my spare systems into a Virtual Private Server just for testing and a learning experience. I was wondering if ya'll had any suggestions? The system isn't TOO old, but the smallest footprint and quickest speed possible would be preferred. I plan on having 3-4 different VPS's running on this system that will encompass a Linux, Microsoft, and Solaris operating systems. I have heard of several that I can use and have been researching them a little bit, but figured I'd come here to see what ya'll thought and if you had any suggestions. Please provide links and such for any suggestions ya'll may have. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated, as always

I was looking at those, but I'm looking more towards a dedicated system that runs a proprietary OS for the virtualization. Something kind of like VMWare's ESX Server, but free, if possible. Pretty sure ESX Server is pay-for. Can't remember and at work right now, so the sites I can go to are limited. Virtual PC is a memory hog, based on past experiences, so that's out the window. VMWare is, so far, looking to be the best one so far, unless someone knows of an open-source virtualization utility such as ESX Server? http://www.vmware.com/products/vi/esx/ |

Pretty much Vmware is top of the game, so i dont know of any open source that comes close to touching it.
The best way to run vmware server on a linux/bsd distro. (text based only)
That way none of the resources are being used by a gui. |

yeah, I saw that, but wasn't sure if after a year there wouldn't be something better or not, hence the post |
