easy copy and paste in Linux - for those who don't know

For those of you who do not know how easy copy and paste is in Linux:

(Let me preface this by saying I didn't know for almost 2-years until I complained on a BBS -kudos to otheos and linux_guru!)

1st -Linux uses the 3rd mouse button folks! If you only have a two button mouse make sure that 3rd button emulation is on in your XF86Config file (3rd button emulation: e.g. clicking both buttons at once=3rd button click).

    1. Select/highlight the text you want to copy in the normal way with the left mouse button.

    2. Next go to the application where you want to paste the text and middle click (3rd button/ mouse wheel, or on 2-button mouse click both buttons at once)

    -wasn't that easy?

The following was pasted from an xterm using this method:

    Code:
    george@athlon-2:~> cat /proc/scsi/scsi
    Attached devices:
    Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
      Vendor: SONY Model: CD-RW CRX175A1 Rev: 5YS2
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
    Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: IBM Model: DPSS-318350N Rev: S96H
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
    Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 01 Lun: 00
Vendor: QUANTUM Model: ATLAS_V__9_WLS Rev: 0230
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
    Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 02 Lun: 00
      Vendor: CyberDrv Model: CD-ROM TW240S Rev: 1.20
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
    Host: scsi2 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: Sandisk Model: ImageMate SDDR09 Rev: 0218
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02

The only problem with that method, is if you lose the highlight accidentally
It works great sometimes, very frustrating other times
One thing that is frustrating is if you want to cut and paste a URL.
You highlight the desired URL from xyz app. however, then by habit I highlight the browser URL and then hit delete... well by then the previous highlighted text is gone so you have to hope you left the initial application open to get the text again.

Awesome I was trying like mad to figure out how to copy-paste an error message from an .rpm when rpm -i file.rpm >file didn't work.

    Thanks CMonster
