I am thinking of going with what evil Rick said, and I am going to download from http://www.ubuntu.com/
Is the switch hard from Windows to Linux??
Also, I'll probably need help on how to set up and connect to net works. Especially since I am using a Dell laptop, and I will need to connect to my school wireless network. I hope it is not too hard.
EDIT: when I look at the download, it aks if I have a 64 bit computer. I have a laptop with an core2 duo. That is 64 bit right?
also which one should I download?
Ubuntu 7.10 - Supported to 2009
Ubuntu 6.06 LTS - Supported to 2009

Can't give you much detail yet, but 7.10 installed without any problems at all, connected me to the net automatically, and its package manager has a perfectly intuitive interface. I'd go with that version rather than 6.06.
Yes, "Core 2" is 64-bit, as opposed to the earlier "dual core".

Thanks very much
Also, I have an SD reader built into my computer...will Ubuntu still be able to use it?? I don't have any driver CDs. In fact, I don't even know what video card I have installed on here. |

Install windows first.. but leave a partition with enough space for ubuntu
Then use the ubuntu live disk and install, just tell it to install on the free partition and it will create a bootloader with ubuntu and windows |

If I remember correctly Ubuntu installer has an option to repartition the harddrive and keep the windows install.
I suggest backing up important data before trying, I have heard it works well, but better be safe than sorry.
Or use partition magic to do it and then proceed with the Ubuntu install. |

I installed Vista.
When I installed Ubuntu 7.10 after, I was able to create two new partitions for Ubuntu.
So you should be fine. Once installed: You are going to want to connect to the internet by wire/lan. Then you should be able to get all the updates, and will be able to connect wireless. |

alright. Taking a long time though. Thanks. Also, where do I get that cube desktop? I would like to have 4 desktops.
Will the resolution be able to fit my screen?? I have a laptop that has a weird resolution. Wide screen sort of looking. |

Cool! I think I did it. The problem is, I accidentally made the partition that both OSs are running on half the size...any suggestions on how to fix it? |
