I dont quite follow what you say below. turn off auto play!!! I want auto play so it automatically loads.
I have just done a destructive re-install. So far I have loaded most of my programs, not all and no reg cleaner or perfect disk8 yet either. Already the auto load dropped, so I went into registry and edited allocateallcdrom value to 0 from 1 under local machine > micro....> ..> windowsNT >winlogin
So far it hasn't dropped the CD-ROMS.
One silly question, which is off topic but anyway, unlike before where I had HDD and one CD-ROM fed from PSU via one string. Now with new corsair HX620 HDD is fed direct, both CD-ROMS are fed off another string, this should not be the cause.. ?

krishan You should turn of auto play on all drives in Group Policy. Press the Windows key on the keyboard + R. Or Go to Start | Run and Type Code: gpedit.msc Go to file tree to the left | User Configuration | Administrative Templates | System| Double click "Turn Off Autoplay" Enable | For All Drives. |

well, I ran registry cleaner7 which cased issue. Today what I do is save all my downloaded programs and driver updates like Nivdia driver on external disk. I just clikc all these exe files and get thenloaded, this saves HDD space.
Now after running RM7, i rebooted to see and sure thing, windows started loading and when it comes time to disllay user accounts BLACK screen. went into safe mode and opened RM and ticked restore backups that were created and ticked restore option, nothing happened and still same issue on normal boot. went back into RM, no backups remaining!!!.
I suspect now that this happened even with cccleaner, I got the same black screen but after a couple of tries it loaded but then cdrom's disappered. I now feel the issue is not with perfectdisk but with any registry cleaner, I suspect maybe what I am doing is the issue, loaded software programs from external disk (.exe) but they are loaded in normal C drive so even if the link is not deleted why should it matter, is the nivdia driver link the reason for black screen.
any thoughts

I am convinced that the new registry mechanic 7 and even cccleaner both work in a similar way and if you just use delete then in my setup for some reason it is casuing issues. Now having re installed without and registry cleaner or perfectdisk8 no issues.
I downloaded tuneup utilities and even used registry cleaner, but left a few I was not sure about and ok, no issues.
so the moral of this story is use registry cleaners at your peril, perfectdisk does something most other defrags do not do that is move around system files, paging file, etc, this could also be an issue as was I think in my case because with windows restore working away in the background just after a porgram install, doing a defrag while that is going on casues issues, so he safe method is to switch off restore if using any defrag that also moved system files.

What I find irritating is that each type(brand) of registry cleaner one tries out it finds more?? stuff that the last one did not see. That would never do on a job site. You do your job and you do it complete(well if not complete) the next person should be able to finish it to completion. But with reg cleaners, I can run 6 different ones one after another and each one finds more. And there is no way of proving that they did or did not find stuff. Not one of them says...."registry is clean" after they "look". There has to be an end somewhere, I would think.

You have run 6?
Have you made any special reg tweaks before? This may cause a reg value for critical components (Explorer) to be marked for deletion when in fact they are still there, just modified in the registry. I.E The start menu folder, Send to, etc.
Just have to make sure what to delete and not to delete. |

I am not infected with virus or something. This is a compaq PC running KIS, it does have "clocker" a HP process, I suppose maybe the updater. Nothing lese of any worry.
No I feel maybe its got to do with having admin and user accounts or saving navida driver on ext. disk and only lanuch it to install on c drive (I save many downloaded drivers or programs on my ext disk. And it is switch off sometimes, maybe windows restore monitoring it and then after RM7 delete it lost that visiability. There could be many I guess, bbut not virus.

krishan
I ran tuneup utilities 2008 and ran its registry cleaner, only 150 errors, deleted 90%, no issue. |

I personally use Uniblue's registry cleaner. To be honest, first time I installed it conflicted with another program I had on my pc. But managed to sort it out and had no problems whatsoever since then. Their support is friendly and helpful too. |
