Outlook Express unable to create internet account mgr.

This is using XP w/sp2
I wasn't sure where to post this; under O/Ss' or under Software, so here I am.

Regarding Outlook Express which I never used (and have no intention to), on someone else box which I just rebuilt, I went to open OE and it returned an error message "Unable to create iternet account manager" it then gave me this" msoe.dll can not be initialized".

I'm assuming this is because a 'service' was stopped, but if so I don't know what services OE depends on since it doesn't seem to affect anything else.

There was a previous issue with a string in the registry regarding user names which was corrected (apparently a common problem, as there were plenty of Google hits on it). At least I don't get that error anymore.

If it isn't this, any ideas either way??

My guess would be the OE has been uninstalled and has just left the shortcut.

Go into the 'Control Panel' then 'Add/Remove Programs' and then 'Add/Remove Windows Components' and then scroll down to 'Outlook Express'. If it's unchecked, check it and it should reinstall it. You may need your XP CD and you will also need to run Windows Updates so it can repatch if needed.

If it's checked, I'd uncheck it and reboot, then go back in and check it again to reinstall it. Repatch after installing it.

Never touched it. It was never setup as I have never used it. This is a fresh install using nLite.

To me, it isn't worth the time since neither I, or the owner uses that.
