| OK now where did my address bar go??
I have lost the option to show my address tool bar on the desktop (XP) (on the bottom next to where the quick launch is)
It just disappeared from my tool bar and the ability to select it as an option. Where is that thing stored so I can find it and put it back??? |

| address bar missing or lost on taskbar SP3 update
I don't know if you fixed this problem yet surreal so if you haven't, here ya go.
What you are experiencing is Microsoft trying to force you to upgrade to Vista since Vista has the address bar still in the taskbar. They offer regulatory mandates as an excuse but we know better. Many on the web are calling BS on this move by M$.
The fix?
Copy browseui.dll from your backup made before updating to SP3 or from your XP disk. My XP Home SP2 had the file needed. I copied it to a pre-made folder on my hard drive, booted into Safe Mode. There you go to your saved browseui.dll file and right click "copy" it. Next drill down to your system32 folder, locate your present copy of browseui.dll and rename it by adding another "b" to the beginning of the file name. (Just to be safe) Now paste your copy into the folder. Reboot and you get the option back Toolbars ---> Address.

Thanks for this Beemer. I had no idea where my address bar went but it pissed me off. Same thing with the new search they shoved down our throats.
I found that there is a backup folder that had the original file right there in my windows directory.
Thanks a lot, this fix is for sure good, Wooo HOOOOO
