| Vista wont let me Administer
I have Vista Ultra with service pack 1, even when I signin as administrator it will not give me permission to be the admin.
It will not let me delete folders on a USB drive, copy files off a CD. If I want to check the box run as admin. The box is greyed out.
I did change the account name and made it an admin account. Anyone have any ideas?

It's very possible that some hacker has taken control of your PC. It's very common these days. I would recommend downloading AVAST and running a startup scan. If you find that you cannot install Avast or that you can't get it to work, the trojans/viruses may be preventing it.
Is it possible that a person or family member got access to your account while you were logged in?
Did you have a password?
Does anyone else know your old password?
Is it set to automatically log into your admin account?
Are there any new accounts?
If any of the above are true, it's very possible that someone you know simply demoted you from administrator status and took over. I can do that on any PC that is logged in as admin and I can do it in 30 seconds.
Here is an example situation that fits your description: SysOpt Forums - viruses found/avast

There is no one but me in the house,no family members. Could be a malware or a hacker; but I dont think so. I just intalled Vista a couple of days ago.
The CDs and the USB drive used to be a Winxp drive. The H/D would not let me delete the windows DIR saying I didn't have permission within Vista.
The CD was made on a XP machine. I have Spybot, Asquared, and Mccaffe Internet Security on my laptop. I also have Mcafee firewall and Comodo Firewall.
On this laptop Vista Ultra runs smoothly, much better then Vista Basic! This Dell laptop was made to run Vista Basic, so I assume it was made to run all versions of Vista. Although it took me 4hrs to install it.
Most bothersome is I can't play Call of Duty2 or try to run it in compatability mode.Because I cant run Vista as Admin.

Oh. You didn't say that you were trying to delete Vista folders.
Vista is a protected operating system The Windows folder and the Program Files folder do not "belong" to the Admin account. They belong to the "System" account. If you want to delete these folders, you have to take ownership of them. Read on... How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP |

Thanks, got Call of duty2 to run. I thought I could just delete the Windows folder once it became a usb device under Vista. Again thanks for your help. Wish I'd have asked before reformating the drive.
