I've been running Vista since it was released. I only had a small handful of issues even before SP1 and even with running the 64bit version. As of today, it works very well on my machine.

2GB of ram, dual core CPU and a decent hard drive is all you need. If you're a heavy gamer, 4GB of ram might be required.
