I have an HP DV9000 series laptop. Bought it as the display unit and i was wondering how i can get it back to factory fresh without having the disks, all i have is HP's recovery partition. Also is there a way to back up a program that is installed. My connection out here sucks and i cnat download the install files too easily......

If the recovery partition is intact, you can use the technique that HP spells out for restoring it and it will be like new. You can download the manual for this unit from HP.

"Can do!"

You cannot back up programs, unfortunately - only data files. Programs are installed with complicated routines. Files are spread everywhere and Registry database entries are created. There is no way to back up an installed program properly as a result.

No can do!

I found the factory restore as a startup option. the other question is, i just installed a 2nd hard drive abd plan on backing up basic stuff on there before i restore. will the restre screw up the new drive? or will it be ok after everything is factory fresh again....
