Excel question

I use a spreadsheet to check my hours of work to make sure that they tally up with my wage slip.
How do i turn "times of work" into "hours worked"..

eg... start work at 8.00am. stop for lunch at 12.00pm. back to work at 1.00pm and then finish at 5.00pm.

8.00 - 12.00 / 13.00 - 17.00 = 8 hours worked
Anyone know the formula(e) for this

there are datetime functions you can work with

here is one option, but maybe a bit more complicated than you wish

I have got the formula for finding how many hours i have worked but i cant seem to add the daily totals together to find a weekly or monthly total...

Even though the hours worked daily are 8, the weekly total always seems to total to 16 where as it should be 40.

Does the colon : have anything to do with it?
