Me thinking out loud.
I like Vista, infact I love it. But as more and more people bitch and complain about it I start to see their points.
I purchased an OEM Version of Vista Home Premium. I have installed it on my current build and have successfully reinstalled windows with no issues concerning the activation.
So my question is if I downgrade myself back down to xp, later on if I change any hardware or not, can I install my Vista Home Prem. anywhere/anytime else? |

The way I understand their OEM license, technically the answer is NO - you cannot transfer an OEM licensed version from one machine to another. Though I don't know what kind of exceptions have been made regarding these XP "downgrades".

Wait 180 days and you can install it anywhere. It drops off Microsoft's database by then and they will have no record of activation for that product key.

No. It only checks to see if your product key is genuine and not activated more than once. |

You can always call Microsoft if you have an issue. I've done so and have gotten new product keys from them over the phone. They're reluctant to give them out, but will do so if they are certain that you're a legitimate customer.
Of course, that was several years ago. I imagine they'd still do it. |
