| MCE no longer completes installation... I'm posting a new thread about MCE's and/or XP's "Configuration Error - Code Purple", the evil thing that HP/Compaq has done to our motherboards, (tattooing). I'm thinking the other thread is dead, that no one is going in there anymore - probably `cos everyone has gotten theirs fixed. I bought mine back in October 2006. It's an HP Pavilion a1630n with an Asus motherboard. Nothing at all wrong with it, for it was still fast and stable Saturday the 16th in the afternoon. But when I went ahead and did the complete 3-DVD Restore discs later on in that evening, that became the end of my PC. Of course you all know why... it won't finish completing the install of MCE. BCWeaver70 says to do this: 1. Load the system recovery disk into CD-ROM 2. Press F10 repeatedly at boot screen to load the Recovery Menu 3. Press R for the recover console 4. Select "Advanced Options" 5. Press Alt + D to bring up the command prompt 6. type "cd h:\" to enter the root directory 7. type "dir /w" to view the directory in wide view 8. open the master.log file (or something along those lines), this should bring up a prompt asking you what program to open it with, you should only be able to select notepad. 9. open the file with notepad and when it appears select the File>Open 10. in the file name box type in "C:\hp\bin\configcheck\run.py" 11. once the file opens clear the contents and select save as then save the file as run.p_ 12. close the notepad program 13. delete the original file by typing "del C:\hp\bin\configcheck\run.py" 14. reboot system But the problem is, I cannot figure out which is the Master.log file, nor does it ever recognize the command cd h:\ but it does recognize dir /w. Can anyone help, tell me which is the Master.log and why it won't recognize the cd h\ command? I don't wanna have to throw this PC away, but I'm not spending $200+ to fix it and then it stops finishing the install again if/when the day comes that it needs to have the restore discs used again. Thanks!
