| What is your mem usage at startup?
I was just wondering what your memory usage was at startup for XP systems. I trimmed mine down about as far as it would go, then installed Office XP (From 2000). After Office XP went in, I noticed that my boot mem usage went up by 10M!? No new services or background tasks are running as a result of Office XP either.
Anyways, at boot I have 15 processes running, and about 78M-80M memory used. It used to be right down within a few hundred K of 70,000K but after I installed Office XP it is now near 80M.
Is this number reasonable or coudl it be lower? I slimmed down my MsConfig as far as I can tolerate, and have killed off as many services as I thought I didn't need.

It is normal IMO ...
I have 768MB of RAM .. when winXP Pro starts up it, free memory would be about 610MB ...
I disabled few services, though .. Programs that start up with XP are few apps and i have office2000 too (but, i deleted it out of the startup menu)...
I know that i can lower that with few tweaks .. so i should start tweaking soon

Commit charge for NT4 trimmed down to 20 MB startup, kernel memory about 9 MB. Office95 installed, but the "Office" part is stripped out. I had to let Pstores.exe run @ startup 'cause Outlook Express lags if it doesn't.
About 14 MB startup for W95B. Resources @ startup 95%.

Yikes, nicely done BFlurie.
My Win95B system uses about 45MB at startup, but that is with AIM, Eccp109, ZoneAlarm, cachemem, and Aureal's audio control system (just too handy to disable, resource hog or no).
"Commit charge for NT4 trimmed down to 20 MB startup"
What is this? Is it free?

I did a little work on my services today and reduced my memory usage amount a bit.
I posted a couple of pages at: http://www.techimo.com/forum/t22850.html
that will help you decide what services you can adjust to improve your memory usage.
Cheers! |
