| Boot Drive is D:, need changed to C:
i really need some help, i've checked soooo many forums, windows support but can't figure this out.
Original set up (windows xp pro)
2 hard drives
1st hd, 500gb - partitioned
c: 80gb (boot, windows xp)
d: 400gb (personal crap)
2nd hd, 200gb - no partition
f: 200gb (personal crap)
i had some problems and decided to format and reinstall windows. I put in the windows xp disc, changed boot to cd-rom, windows started up and i had options to format. for some reason it turned to this (i forgot i left an external hd plugged in)
master hd
d: 80gb (boot, windows xp)
e: 400gb (personal crap)
slave hd
c: 200gb (personal crap)
obviously i was confused and couldn't select c: because it would wipe everything on it. so i selected d: and haven't been able to change it back to c: since. i disconnected the 200gb hard drive and then it turned to this.
master hd - 500gb
c: 400gb (personal crap) (partition 1)
d: 80gb (boot, windows xp) (partition 2)
all the forums say to use computer management in windows to change the volume names but it tells me that windows does not allow the volume names to be changed. really need some help and i really appreciate your time. |

As you've seen - you can't change this...
99.999999% of the time, having Windows on D drive will run fine.
Only way to fix it is to remove the second drive and do a fresh install on the remaining drive.

c: 400gb (personal crap) (partition 1)
d:80gb (boot, windows xp) (partition 2)
i want those switched around, but can't figure out how. |

You can't switch em around....You'll have to save the personal stuff to another drive and start over with a fresh install. |
