Here is the problem, a user of mine cannot run any type of setup.exe's ... All her programs run fine and her system looks good, it all checks out, but when you go to run a setup.exe the mouse changes into an hourglass and then back to mouse ... nothing. I have restarted and all that good stuff. Any ideas?

Are these from EVERY setup.exe or just ones from burned CDRs? I've seen old cd-rom drives cause this with burned discs.

This is every setup.exe .. from CD's, from the Harddrive, ones just downloaded ... just setup.exe ....
I was thinking maybe something with Windows Installer?

1.) run msconfig and uncheck everyting except for systray.exe
2.) Run anti-virus on it
3.) Update the mobo drivers

I will see what I can do about that Dokeman .. the real problem is that this user is remote .. and she cannot come in right now.. so all tech support is being done over the phone .. . ahhhh what a pain. Thanks

I'm assuming she has rights to run a setup.exe application?

I don't run Win2000 so this is just a shot in the dark. I run Win98/WinXP/Mandrake 8.2 on my box and Win98se on my son's. When visiting the windows update site this weekend on my son's Win98 box, widows update installed WINDOWS INSTALLER 2.0
So 3 things come to mind.
1) If this is something your client recently updated, perhaps the update went bad?
2) Perhaps your client is running an older version of windows installer for 2000 and they could remedy their problem by downloading the updated windows installer Ver2.0 (for Win2000) HERE
3) There is also a Windows Installer CleanUp Utility which allows you to safely remove Windows Installer-related registry settings from your computer in the event of a problem available Here

Reboot into safe mode and see what that yields.. I just had a problem like this with a client..
Safemode worked
Why it won't any longer from some of them in normal mode, I'm not sure of yet..
I did however, try all of the above...
I'll let you know though.

EDIT>> SORRY!! I didn't realize this was OVER a year ago!.. I thought this was last week :P
