hide icons on desktop

So I got a copy of XP 64bit from my son the other day and I finally install it and it recognizes all 4gb of my memory like I wanted it to and eveything else. Except I can't hide my desktop icons.

on 32 bit I would right click on the desktop go to Arrange Icons by and uncheck shop desktop icons, but on 64bit I see arrange icons by and no option for showing desktop icons.

Is there another way I can hide my desktop icons or is that option not available for 64 bit?

Its not. I did find a method using the registry editor that works from this site No Hide Desktop Icons on x64 XP? - techPowerUp! Forums (listing it for future reference.

If you don't want to use a registry editor you can simply right click the icon, select the General Tab, and check the box 'Hidden' ...

Then, to view/not view the icons open the Control Panel > Folder Options > View, and select the option you want there...
