"Read Only" attributes won't stay cleared

I have used Windows live photo gallery in the past and when i edit a picture it would save it. recently i get a pop up that states it can't save it because it's "read only". so i go and change the attributes for the folder and all subfolders and think that I'm done. i go back to Windows live photo gallery and try to save and the same thing happens, like i never cleared it. i check the "read only" status and it's back on. This folder is a on an external USB drive. I was thinking that it might be the problem but other folders are ok. any ideas?

What happens when you change the attributes of just the one file you're working on?

same thing...i go back to windows live and it wont let me save it. i can alter it in photoshop though....maybe its windows live photo gallery huh...
