that said - theres an on/off postal strike here so i'm not holding my breath waiting for the dvd to arrive. ran the w7 beta on an old rig and liked it - seemed to be kinder on resources than vista. |

Well, that was odd. I used my upgrade disk and followed RicheemxX's advice. I went through the whole install without removing my RC version of Win 7, and when I went to edit the registry, I found that the desired configuration was already there. So I just went ahead, rebooted and activated without any problem, despite the fact that I didn't have a licensed copy of Windows on the machine (although I do own one). So everything looks good.
The Linux partitions are still there, although currently not usable, probably because GRUB needs to be edited. But I'll wait until later in the week and download Ubuntu 9.10. |

Got mine. Home Premium Upgrade. I haven't done an upgrade this soon since Windows 95 came out. Took a long time to jump from XP to Vista. I built a new Intel Quad Core just for Vista. Enjoyed my time with it though, barely 2 years. Got Windows 7 on Friday, and installed it Saturday. I love it so far. The only hang I had was with Kaspersky 2009. I did a clean install and when I reinstalledKkaspersky (with the latest update), I received several warnings and errors. To make this short, Kaspersky offered a free upgrade to their 2010 version for free. Downloaded it, put in my activation key and Kaspersky was back on the job. I'm glad that Kaspersky took care of the issue. I love their app. Funny, I went to them when Webroot's Spysweeper wouldn't work on my Vista 64 bit upgrade.

found a pretty cool site that will help ease the transition from one OS to another. Ninite Easy PC Setup and Multiple App Installer
the build a custom installer with the apps of your choice, no tracking down the latest version and doing multi installs

My son says he got his copy of 7 early with a handwritten note saying not to activate until it was released.

Sounds like an illegal copy of a volume license. |
