To start with: I solved my problem already.
This thread I however posted, because very little can be found on it on the internet and I, luckily enough, happened to end up with a solution.
System: Dell Inspiron 15, Celeron Core2Duo T3000 (L1/L2 = 2x32Kb/1Mb), 2 x 2 Gb PC6400 kit.
1st attempt to install SP2 64bit.
In McAfee Security Center on advice of Microsoft I closed every service but the firewall.
Op Desktop I opened
Windows6.0-KB948465-X64.exe.
The install seemed to stall, for about 15 minuten the banner didn't proceed.
In Task Manager I noticed a low CPU-claim and the proces
xpinstall.exe only used 17 Mb of memory.
After about 35 minutes Vista closed down and on the succeeding screen fase 1 and 2 (of 3) took about 10 minutes.
After a system restart (automatic) the last fase 3 was done in 5 minutes.
When I tried to login to my admin-account, I was not granted that.
Tried the 'kid' account too, but, no surprise off course, to no avail.
The fault I was presented (on the login-screen) wrote:
The User Profile service failed to logon. User Profile cannot be loaded.
In Event Viewer in the Application Logs I found:
Warning - User Profile Service - Event 1534
(bad translation)
Event-notice of event Upgrade for part {D63AA156-D534-4BAC-9BF1-55359CF5EC30} has failed. Fault description code is -2147024893.
Hitting the internet got me

Not one of them, however, led me, on my admin-account in
F8 Safe Mode, to a working solution.
So I was left with doing a System Restore to the moment right before installing SP2 x64.
2nd attempt.
Also in Task Manager I had noticed that simply on Desktop I had only 180 Mb left of my amount of 4 Gb of memory. Most of it was 'in cache'. This spooked me, because during install I had seen only 8 Mb of unused memory.
A quick Google remembered me about
Superfetch and in 'service.msc' I quickly disabled it.
This gained me about 1.500 Mb of freed memory.
So now I started up in
Safe Mode with Networking.
Started x64 SP2 install again and now the complete install, because of the 'lean' Safe Mode, only took 35 instead of 55 minutes.
Sad to say: Safe Mode install didn't help me much.
Just like before I couldn't login. Got the same User Profile service event.
Now I didn't do another System Restore, but instead I did another system restart through
F8.
In
Advanced Options I decided to best first try
Debugging Mode.
30 seconds later I
succeeded in logging in on my admin-account.
Hopefully this will be useful to anyone.
