I want to upgrade my 320gig HDD to at least a 720gig HDD. All I know is that after I replace it and boot it up, I should be sent to the BIOS. How and when will I install my OS? Also I'll be using my Windows 7 upgrade option disk, but I already registered my product key..can I still register it again?
Thanks for replying, imma total PC noob |

There should be no reason for you to be sent to the bios unless you choose to be. But for starters you'll want to hit the bios and select boot from the DVD drive. Once you got that set throw the disk in and reboot, when it asks you to boot from cd/dvd press a key. You should hit the W7 setup screen, from there select custom install and assuming it lets you install properly w/o an old OS installed first you should be good to go.
Registering and activation is a YMMV at the worst you'll just need to call MS and tell them you just bought a new drive and are doing a re-install.

Well you do understand the term upgrade implies that you had an OS on there to begin with. Its not meant for a fresh install. But W7 does allow for it, so it shouldn't be an issue but you might run into one. You might need to try this trick Quote:

From what I've heard you should be able to run the custom install and it work w/o issues. The only problem you might run into is with activation, but here is a work around http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/cle...rade_media.asp | I should also add that you'll need to format the drive and setup your partitions but that should be pretty self explanatory |

I still have my Vista disk, so I could just contact Microsoft and tell them I got a new HDD? |

I'd give it a whirl and see how you get on first....
You may find that it will install without a problem, but (worst case scenario) you might need to get in contact with M$ to get it activated...
Let us know how you get on.....
