Delete an OS

Have two hard drives (identical), one with Vista 64bit (original OS) and one with Win7 64bit (new OS).

If i wanted to keep just one of them, how do i go about "deleting" the other one? Could i just do a format?

Are there any pros and cons for keeping the two on?

Pro/cons, about the only one is compatibility, if perhaps you had something that doesn't run in W7 but does in Vista but I don't see that being an issue.

Can you just format, that depends on how you set them up and where the bootloader is. Did you disable the Vista drive when you installed W7 or did you leave them both running and now have the option to choose from the boot manager?

Richee has already said what I was going to say. Best/quickest is simply format the partition or drive the unwanted OS was on. Make SURE you get the right one though!!

Depending on how the partitions are setup you could have issues.

Likely the boot loader and stuff you need is stored on the drive with Vista, so reformatting the drive may make your system unbootable without going through windows repair.

No, did not disable Vista.

I have a dual boot setup at the moment.

For grins you could unplug the Win 7 drive to get a taste of what will happen when you format the win 7 drive.

The following can and will help you sort out the boot menu:

Either way you'll more than likely either need to run easybcd or slap the W7 disk in and do a boot repair. Like Steve said you could unplug or disable the drive you plan on formatting just to check.
