Can't find downloaded files in Vista

Downloaded files are not showing up in the file manager or searches when I try to access them, but I know they were saved because it won't allow me to save another file with the same name. Any ideas?

I discovered that the files were getting downloaded here; C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\

When I created a folder for the files, it made the folder, but in the above directory. Any idea how to prevent the folder from being created there so that the files won't be sent there? Thanks

It's always the last place you look.

Undoubtedly it should have shown up in search had you used the correct file name or extension
