| email attachment won't open
I just got an email attachment but wordpad won't open it. I went to tools>security and unchecked the 'do not open suspicious etc' box then I get an error message saying 'wordpad has caused an error in MSWRD832.CNV. wordpad will now close. Try restarting your computer. I restarted it and got the same results. What can I do? |

Seriously, you need to provide a little more information.
1. What is the attachment?
2. What is your mail program? OS?
3. Did you try saving the attachment then opening it? |

Is this even from a trusted contact?
Even if it is, are you sure they are not compromised and auto-sending BOT emails? |

I'm using Outlook Express 6. The attachment is from Magellan who is affiliated with AmeriHealth Mercy insurance. It includes a list of Dr.'s names in my area. I tried saving it to disc then opening it but I got the same results. |

Well if wordpad is generating an error, I believe that could be caused by data that wordpad is not capable of rendering...
I.E. it was created using Word, or another format altogether.
What is the .XXX format? |

Sorry what I meant was, look at the attachment, it should be named
"blah-blah-blah.something"
we need the something part of the name.
its the extension, which tells your OS what to open it with.
In other words tell us the complete name of the file attached... |

.exe
.pdf
.doc
The last 3 letters or numbers after the dot in the file name.
Try forwarding it, but don't send it, just open the forwarded mail that opens up.
You may have to do it 2 or 3 times, maybe as many as 5. Edit; opening the attachment in each new window 2 or 3 times works, most of the time also.
It always works for me, but it doesn't sound like an OE error.
If that doesn't work, it is what JP said.
